命令形を丁寧にする時は「Please」を付ければよいと思っている人が多い。しかし「Please」を付けても命令形は命令形であることに変わりはないから丁寧にはならない。ビジネス英語の丁寧な物言いは「こういうことが実現できると私は嬉しいのだが、あなたはどう思うか」という表現を用いる。これだと命令形を全く使わなくても相手に命令した時と同じ行動を誘発できるのだ。
